Tools you can hold

Card decks and practical tools for staffrooms, coaching conversations and the harder days. Some are published through Particular Things, my card and tool studio.

For schools

The school series

Three decks that build on each other: first notice what the day is costing, then regulate inside it, then understand the system that shapes it.

  1. Notice
  2. Regulate
  3. Understand the system
The First Five Years box with two cards: the bell hasn't gone yet, and parent-teacher interviews ran till nineNotice · Particular Things · Available

The First Five Years

Seventy-three cards for any teacher in their first five years, career-changers included. Each one names a moment you'll recognise, from yard duty in week two to forty report comments, with a question to sit with and one small thing to try.

Lay five face up. One will stop you before you've read the others.

The Staffroom

Fifty small tasks for the gaps in a teaching day. No suits and no order, so you pull whatever fits the five minutes you have. Comes in a cloth bag that lives in a desk drawer.

The Sensory Profiling System

The card system that goes with the Sensory Profiling Workshop: Terrain, Compass, Field Kit and Traveller, for reference long after the day.

For the rest of life

Beyond the staffroom

Not every deck is for work. These are for growing up, for midlife, and for minds with their own methods.

Three cards from Permission from Aunty Pip, fanned outParticular Things · Available

Permission from Aunty Pip

Fifty-six permission slips for girls aged ten to fourteen, each signed by an aunty or uncle who learned it the long way round. Permission to take up space, to outgrow a friendship, to rest, to still be figuring out who you are.

For kids who already sense they're doing life a bit differently, with or without a diagnosis.

Three case-file cards from Department of Everyday Frictions, fanned outParticular Things · Available

The Department of Everyday Frictions

Case files for minds with their own methods. Forty-two cards from an imagined department that investigates the everyday incidents of executive function, from The Task With No Door to Too Many Tabs Have Formed a Government.

The Department investigates the task, the timing and the environment. Never whether you're trying hard enough.

Three cards from Fine., each styled as an eighties magazine advice page with a photograph, a letter and a replyParticular Things · Available

Fine.

The apology has left the building. A deck for perimenopause, when forty years of passing stops working. Built like the advice page of an eighties Australian magazine: the body writes in, and the body answers.

Every card ends with a move, something to do this week, and a track from the music page.

Particular Things

Cards for noticing what's already here

Particular Things is where I publish card decks and resources for neurodivergent people and educators. It has its own shop and its own voice, with oracle decks like From Here and The Bright Mess, and tarot like The Divergent Arcana.

Every deck is printed to order, so allow two to three weeks for delivery. Each one comes with a free companion website holding every card, the full text, and a way to pull one when the box isn't with you.
